Careers

We hire people whocheck the detail.

Two generations of engineers built this company by walking the slab. We hire slowly, we keep people a long time, and the person who interviews you is the person you will work with.

Until you hear back

  1. 01

    You will be on site

Our buildings are in the Central Suburbs, not in a tower in BKC. Site roles are on the slab most mornings, in July as much as in January. If that is the part you were hoping to avoid, this is not the job.

  2. 02

You will be checked, and you will check

Nothing is signed here by someone who has not stood on the thing it describes. That cuts both ways: your work is looked at closely, and you are expected to look closely at everyone else's, including at the two generations above you.

  3. 03

We are small, and it cuts both ways

The group employs over 370 people across five sectors, but the real estate team is small enough that there is no department to hide behind. You will be given more than your title suggests within a year, and there will be months where the title itself does not move at all.

  4. 04

If a pour is not ready, it stops

The person who says so is whoever is standing there, whatever their designation. It is the whole culture of the firm, and it is why our buildings are built right.

From inside
I came for eighteen months of concrete and I have been here eleven years. The reason is small: the first time I said a slab was not ready, the pour stopped, and nobody has ever asked me to say otherwise since.

How hiring works

Five steps, and you meet your actual boss in the fourth.

  1. 01

    You send it

The form on the role itself. A resume and a few honest lines. No covering letter needed: a person reads every application.

  2. 02

    A person reads it

One of the family, usually within the week. Everybody hears back inside two working days of that, including the people we are saying no to.

  3. 03

    We walk a site together

Before any formal interview, and for every role, accounts included. An hour on a live slab tells both of us more than an hour across a table.

  4. 04

One conversation, with the person you would report to

Not a panel, and not five rounds. The engineer or head who will actually work with you every day is the person on the other side of it.

  5. 05

An offer with the number in it

In writing, with the salary, the reporting line and the start date on the first page. Nothing is left to be settled after you resign somewhere else.

Our three promises to every applicant

  • Your time is paid for. If we need to see your work, we pay for the day.
  • A clear answer from a person, with a reason, whichever way it goes.
  • The offer in writing matches the conversation, word for word.

Nothing that fits

Write to us anyway. We have made a role for the right person before.

Send the resume and one paragraph on the building you are proudest of having worked on. It is read by the same people who read the applications against an open role, and it gets the same answer inside two working days.
